Voting

We had a lot of fun learning about how our voting system works and how we can be good citizens by voting. We held an election to decide what our favorite class color was.  

We started out by introducing what a ballot looked like.  Students went into our private voting area and chose their favorite color, and then they placed them in our "official" voting box.  Once they voted, student recieved an "I voted today" bracelet.  After tallying the count, the winner of our class vote for favorite color was purple. Off to a Busy Start

We're off to a fun and busy start of kindergarten.  One of my goals this year is allow students time to work and explore in all areas of learning. So far, we have started the year off by exploring in math with patterning and sorting using various items such as pom-poms, blocks, and peg boards.  Here are a few pictures from our math workstations

These are Lego task cards.  I basically grabbed 10-12 Lego pieces and built different structures taking photos as I went.  I printed the photos out and placed them in a container for a challenging and fun workstation. This works on visual perceptions, spacial relationships, and fine motor skills, plus who doesn't love Legos!

Sharks!!

We have been having so much fun learning about fish and sharks. We listened and watched several videos about different types if sharks and their adaptations and attributes. For example, did you know that the hammerhead shark uses his head to steer in the water. They also use their rad to pin rays and other animals down so they can eat them.  

After lots of learning we made these adorable sharks and wrote down some of the awesome fact we learned! 

Fairy Tale Feast Fun!!

We have had so much fun over the last month studying all about Fairy Tales.  We learned about the elements of a fairy tale, sequenced fairy tales, and compared different versions.  Our feast was so much fun! I am so thankful to all of the parents who donated items, money, and their time to make this a huge success! Below are some highlights of our fun unit and some pictures from the feast.

Kindergarten Cars

A few weeks ago during our motion and movement unit we had our first ever Kindergarten Car Derby! They had a really fun time racing their cars down the ramp.  We learned a lot about which cars did well and why. We also thought about ways we could alter our cars to do better in the future.  Here are some highlights from that fun event. A special thanks to all the parents for supporting their child and helping them with their car at home.  They were fantastic!

Thanksgiving Week Fun

The two days before our thanksgiving break were full of fun and learning.  We talked about our own family traditions during Thanksgiving and wrote about what we were thankful for.  We also created crock pot pumpkin bread and homemade cinnamon sugar butter.  They had so much fun measuring and cooking.  I am so thankful to have such a fabulous class this year.  Here is the link to the crock pot pumpkin bread if you would like to make it at home! http://wannabite.com/crockpot-pumpkin-bread/

Apples, Apples, Apples

We have had so much fun learning, experimenting, graphing, and cooking with apples.   Here are some of the highlights from our week. 

We started off the week by doing some apple investigations. We measured apples in several different ways and looked to see if they would float.  We made predictions before and then tested to see if we were correct.
